Candida

Candida is an STD that can be passed on through sex, but sex is actually not the cause. Candida is in fact a yeast infection. Many people have yeast in their body and have absolutely no problems with it, but sometimes the yeast increases and complaints arise. Causes of this are, for example, reduced resistance, use of certain antibiotics or by the contraceptive pill. But also by using soap on the genitals. So pay attention to that!

You may think it is nice and fresh to wash you there with soap, but it is not good for you. You should rather just wash with water in that zone.

Candida can be transmitted through sexual contact. Think penis, vagina, anus and mouth. So: not the cause, but a way of passing on.

How do you know if you have Candida?
First of all: when in doubt, go to the doctor! But there are a number of symptoms that you can help you recognize Candida.

With women

  • More or different vaginal discharge than normal. It is often crumbly
  • Burning and redness of the vagina
  • Itching of the vagina
  • Pain when urinating

With men:

  • Red and flaky acorn
  • Itching of the glans and foreskin
  • You don't always have to have all the symptoms. If you recognize a piece or two, chances are it is Candida.

Therapy
Candida is very common and can be treated well. It is only necessary to have your bed partner treated if he or she also has complaints.

Appearance
Of course I prefer that you try to prevent an STD. That is difficult with Candida because sometimes it is just bad luck that you get it. But: an infection through sexual contact can be prevented by using a condom. With vaginal, anal as well as oral contact. You can use a licking pad for rimming and eating.

During the treatment against Candida it is better not to have sex (sorry, don't shoot the messenger). That way your body gets a better chance to recover.
